The idea of starting a LifeLong Learning lecture series for Stouffville began in 2018 after our founding chairman, Harry Renaud, attended a LifeLong Learning lecture at the Angus Glen Golf Club in Markham. At that time, he recognized a number of attendees from Stouffville. Due to their interest and participation in the Markham series, Harry began to think of holding similar lectures in Stouffville.

He contacted a few people he had recognized to see if they were interested to organize a Stouffville Chapter. Charlotte Cave, Norma Card, Bob and Gail Priestman, Carole Langford, Jim and Marlene Gillies all agreed to meet with him and his wife Barbara to explore the possibility.

They met in May at Spring Lakes Golf Club to launch LifeLong Learning Stouffville. There was a lot of enthusiasm and energy to establish the program for the Fall of 2018. They began their planning for the appropriate day and time of the week to host the speakers, develop a web site, confirm a venue, garner sponsors and establish a marketing plan to promote the LifeLong Learning Lectures without interfering with Markham or Aurora chapters.

All the volunteer hard work paid off as there was a strong response, so much so that they quickly outgrew the first venue's capacity and moved the lectures to a larger auditorium for the Fall Session in 2019. Lectures are currently presented at East Ridge Church, 12485 Tenth Line, in Stouffville.

LifeLong Learning offers “edutainment” with a series of interesting, educational and entertaining lectures that are presented by very qualified speakers and diverse topics. There are two lecture series, one in the spring and one in the fall with 6 lectures in each series. These are presented live in the lecture hall and streamed concurrently over Zoom.  There is a fixed cost of $55 for each series.
